My unusual 1988 Volvo 360 GLE 2.0 hatchback is for sale. It's a rare '80s RWD classic hatch that's hard to come by in 2.0 flavour and this particular engine is renowned for being one of the most tough engines ever made. The 360 GLE was the top-of-the-range Volvo 300 in 1988. This car is unique in that it's had just one previous owner before me which was the Spanish Embassy in London, to whom it was registered on diplomatic plates - 253D560 - for most of its life. I have all the old paperwork and makes for interesting reading. As you'd expect of a car which has been owned by a foreign embassy in London, the car has been serviced to perfection over the years, but equally as a car which has spent its life on the streets of London and travelling further afield to Europe, the bodywork is quite tatty. Fortunately the underside of the car is all rock solid and free of rot - in fact the factory-applied underseal is all still there. Indeed the last MoT only highlighted two advisories, which were as follows; * Nearside Front brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened (3.5.1i) * Offside Front brake disc worn, pitted or scored, but not seriously weakened (3.5.1i) The brakes are absolutely excellent, so I'm assuming the MoT tester was being cautious. I think just two advisories on a 31-year-old classic car is quite impressive and better than most modern cars. The car has covered just 85 miles since that MoT and it's valid until 10th May. It will obviously sail through the next MoT and has great tyres all round. Everything mechanically speaking is absolutely excellent, including the engine, gearbox, steering, suspension, rear differential and brakes. There are no strange noises or mechanical issues. The interior is in great condition, with lovely comfortable seats which are also heated and there are all the luxuries you could need, including electric windows, central locking and an absolutely excellent heater. The sunroof is kaput though and has been sealed shut, which looks unsightly. The service history is extensive and includes hundreds of receipts and all the former MoTs. This is one of the most genuine 2.0 360 GLEs you'll come across, with about the best provenance you'll find. It even has the original Volvo dealer supplied keyring! Being RWD and with the largest engine of the Volvo 300 series range, the 360 is an entertaining hatchback, with none of the reliability issues of the lesser 340. If you are looking for a quick '80s hatch which is practical, reliable, cheap to run, very affordable and you don't mind an exterior which is a bit cosmetically-challenged, then this is the car for you. This car will take you wherever you want to go without any problems. Being sold only to reduce my enormous collection of cars and due to not having the time I'd like to use it. Inspection / test drives are welcome. Car is in storage near to Chichester, West Sussex.
