With a heavy heart I’m going to sell my 1983 Austin Metro 1.0 base, finished in Cinnabar red with Marle Sandpiper interior trim. Supplied new by M R Brown Austin Rover dealers of Louth, Lincolnshire. It still sports it’s original dealer plates and a accurate reproduction dealer sticker that I scanned from another car from the same dealer. Having covered just 21,073 miles from new, this is a cracking little car and is as lovely a mk1 metro you could find. I’ve had the car for two years and used it very sparingly in that time. I’ve also got six minis, a Wolseley Hornet, a Wolseley 1100 and two MG Metros, and I’ve never driven another that feels this mechanically tight and fresh. The A plus engine is quieter than any I’ve had and the gearbox is tight as a drum. This car makes me smile every time I start it from the moment I hear the starter bendix throw out when it fires. This car is absolutely on the button and would make a fine addition to any collection or a great entry to the world of classic motoring. Being the base model, it is one ‘up’ the model heirarchy from the ‘City’ meaning nicer Marle cloth trim and the glamour of a heated rear window and a rear parcel shelf. In addition it has been fitted with a genuine passenger side wing mirror and a correct period Austin Morris branded AM Radio. This car is correct right down to the genuine radio aerial I fitted to replace the aftermarket one on there when I bought the car. It also has a pair of the (now) rare genuine Cannon rubber front mats which will stay with the car on its sale. Someone has lost previous invoices at some point, but I have pretty much every previous MOT Certificate, as follows: 1987 - 11,826 miles 1988 - 13,211 miles 1989 - 15,187 miles 1990 - 17,282 miles 1991 - 17,742 miles 1992 - 17,876 miles 1994 - 17,981 miles 1997 - 19,257 miles 1998 - 19,612 miles 1999 - 19,680 miles 2000 - 19,766 miles 2001 - 19,768 miles 2002 - 19,769 miles 2003 - 19,785 miles 2004 - 19,820 miles 2005 - 19,845 miles 2006 - 19,861 miles 2008 - 19,908 miles 2009 - 19,910 miles 2010 - 19,912 miles 2012 - 19,968 miles 2016 - 20,450 miles 2017 - 20,716 miles 2018 - 20,968 miles It has gone for a fresh MOT this week. The car has never been welded and the sills, floor, cross member, boot floor and front panel etc., are all mint. From speaking to a previous owner the car was re-painted around 10 years ago as a result of dulling and minor parking skirmishes. The paint is still fresh and bright and the bumpers and end caps are in great condition. The interior is unmarked, headlining, seats and carpet all in great condition. When I got the car it was on its original Goodyear Grand Prix S tyres which were cracking and have been replaced with a fresh set of 145/70/12 tyres. The car has just had a fresh oil and filter change using Halfords 20/50 and a genuine Unipart GFE443 oil filter. The car has two sets of keys, one of which are the original Austin Morris branded items. I’ll be sad to see this one go, but I’m just not going to have the time to really enjoy it, so needs must. Am happy to discuss delivery on my trailer at cost and open to taking another in for it, plus cash my way. Difficult one to price, but have seen others go for more and I genuinely think this is as good as any out there.
