1974 Mercedes 450 SEL 4.5 V8, MoT & Tax exempt. New MoT. 66k. 4 previous keepers, the last since 1985. RHD UK car but spent the first 10 years of its life in Abu Dhabi in the ownership of a military serviceman. Garaged since returning to the UK and used sparingly by its elderly gentleman owner. We have owned the car since 2014 when the second owner gave up driving. 65,900 miles with large supporting history file including original service book etc. Two keys. HPI clear. In 2014 we had the front ends of the outer sills replaced, the bottom inner of the drivers front door and both rear boot wells. These parts were correctly stone chipped as per original specifications and painted body colour. During this time we also had the car serviced and the fuel tank flushed clean including a new fuel new filter. New battery fitted. In 2015 the rear brake hoses and both power steering belts replaced with genuine Mercedes items. This year we've replaced both front brake calipers with remanufactured Bendix items we had sourced from Germany. At this time we also replaced both front brake flexi hoses, front disks and pads and we had the brake master cylinder sent away to be machined, powder coated and re sealed. It's had a complete brake fluid change so it now stops as well as it goes! The coolant has just been flushed inc a new genuine Mercedes thermostat. MoT until Aug 9th 2019, but now MoT and tax exempt. Due to the work we had completed in 2014 the body has remained very sound with absolutely no structural work required or advised on this years MoT. Excellent jacking points and subframe mounts. All doors totally solid and open without dropping. It has had a repaint sometime in the early 1990s in its original Icon Gold metallic and still remains very bright and glossy. It's still very much a head turner and we often get people stopping and commenting on how smart it looks at almost half a century old. The lovely period tan velour interior has always been fitted with seat covers so has worn it 44 years very well with just some minor wear/marks as to be expected at 66k miles. All of the plastics are excellent and free from sun damage or cracking. All electric windows are working. Manual door locking. Period correct stereo system. It starts absolutely as it should and is a joy to drive. The 4.5 V8 runs and idles beautifully with oodles of power and the 3 speed autobox behaves just as Mercedes intended it to do so 44 years ago. The engine bay is clean and free from any leaks or crusty parts. Points to note are a couple of small bubbles and chips/wear in the paintwork, a small amount of wear/marks to the velour upholstery and the sunroof is currently not working. Some improvement could be made to the front headlining but not critical. Two small pieces of brightwork are missing from the front door uppers (available on eBay.de). That said, it is a very solid, usable and bright example that has had much recent expenditure and starts and drives on the button.
