This Marcos has effectively had a complete restoration started in 2006 by the previous owner but by and large carried out and completed by Stuart Apps, well known in Marcos circles, between 2013 and 2015. In the hands of its current owner David Allan, former Area Co-ordinator for CMI in Scotland and for many years organiser for Marcos Scotland it has continued to be maintained without regard to cost. The Marcos comes complete with Factory Build File from Marcos Heritage and a file providing substantial history and receipts. In the hands of the previous owner, the car was repainted in vibrant Chrome Yellow and the interior was professionally retrimmed in black with yellow piping and black carpeting. The original pre crossflow 1500 Ford engine was rebuilt to 1720cc using a 5 bearing 711 block, retaining the top end of the original unit but modified with a high lift cam, big valves, high compression pistons, twin 40 DCOE Webers and lightened flywheel. The Marcos retains all its key original features with its solid and well preserved wooden chassis and aluminium cladding in the engine compartment. In Stuart’s hands amongst much other detail work designed to make this a fast, glorious handling and generally fully sorted Marcos. There was a complete overhaul of steering brakes, clutch and suspension including discs, calipers, pads, steering bushes, anti-roll bar, track rod ends, clutch and brake master cylinders, adjustable shocks etc. Lotus Cortina rear axle with 3.77:1 final drive was retained. The fuel system was replaced with a new aluminium tank, electric fuel pump, braided fuel lines. An elegant oil catch tank is also installed. The car was totally rewired. Fitted an electric fan with adjustable thermostat, A new starter motor and alternator were installed along with a replacement radiator and the points in the original Motorcraft distributor were replaced with electronic ignition. New 5.5J Minilite type wheels with 185 x 13 tyres fitted on Ford pcd all round It presents exceptionally well borne out by John Brookes of MOC having invited the car onto the MOC stand at NEC 2015 and its winning Best of Class in 2016 at the Ayrshire Classic Car Show.
