1928 Bentley Speed Six Vanden Plas Replica. Chassis number: WT2259 Registration number: SV6577 UK AM-65-12 (Dutch.) 11 05 2016: Coming next week. Chassis no. WT2259 is recorded as having been test in November 1928 and was supplied new to Mr. J.R. Brooks Esq with a Gurney Nutting Saloon body. In the early 1990’s the original bodywork, which was now beyond repair, was replaced with an open tourer body to an original Vanden Plas design which was fabric covered in British racing Green. The wings were also replaced with a set of long wings to the VandePlas style of the late 1920’s. The engine was built around a new crankcase, with a new Phoenix crankshaft + camshaft, 6 high compression pistons, a C-type gearbox, a new crown wheel and pinion of 3.3:1 ratio, new wiring, Scintilla magneto, 40 gallon Le Mans-type fueltank, 2 Lucas P100 Bullseye headlamps….etc. The chassis and engine WT2261 were restored in the early 1990’s to their original specification, by the the well know specialist in the restauration of vintage Bentleys, Richard C. Moss in the UK. Richard and Graham Moss have restored twenty six cars in total and have more concours wins than any other company in the world. Total restoration costs over about that period of 5 years, was GBP £228.000. The present Dutch owner acquired the car in 2007 and it was decided first to make the car ready for international rallies. Draper Speed Six hydraulic shock absorbers were assembled, 5 new Blockley tires fitted & electronic power-steering added. In total GBP £75.000 was invested, to make to car ready for int. rally´s and concourses. The ODO meter is reading now 21680Km. From 2007 to todays date the car is in excellent condition and has driven about 11500 Km in a couple of International Rally´s: 2008 The Netherlands; The Red Cross Rally, BDC Rally’s , PAC Rally. Germany: Bavaria Classic Bad Aibling 2009 Italy; Transappeninica, Germany; Classic Days Schloss Dyck, Nürnberg Ring Classic, UK; BDC Rally Scottland. 2010 + 2011+ 2012 The Netherlands; BDC Rally’s, PAC Rally’s 2013 Italy Mille Miglia, start nr. 15 2014 Germany Classic Days Schloss Dyck, RR Club Austria 1000 Miglia 2015 The Netherlands BDC Rally’s. The Bentley’s provenance is simply impeccable and its condition is mechanically excellent. It is without question one of the most desirable and proper Speed Six models in existence and is now for sale. We will extensively photograph the car after its arrival next week.
